I have always know the company as Shakespeare in the Park, but their name is The Woodward Shakespeare Festival. These performances and always excellent and great entertainment on a warm summer's night. They are performing this summer in the Woodward Park Meadow Theatre located in the N/E 12 acres (on the map) near the Friant/Fort Washington entrance. Seating can be reserved ($10) but is FREE and operates on a first come first serve basis, however you may bring your own chairs and blankets to sit on.
Performances include The Merchant of Venice, June 24th-July 24, 2010 and King Lear, August 12th- September 11, 2010 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 8pm (it is best to arrive by 7:30pm). This is a nonprofit organization of resident artists and local actors dedicated to bringing the arts to Fresno and providing entertainment for all audiences.
