97cents for 1lb of Strawberries at Save Mart through Sunday
Yum. Strawberries are 97 cents in the 1 lb containers at Save Mart through Sunday. Also there is always a rolling rack in the back of the produce section, sort of out of sight, that will have ripe (sometimes too ripe) produce bundled together for 99 cents or 69 cents a tray. This is a consistent way to get a lot of bananas and tomatoes for super cheap. You obviously just need to eat them right away (banana bread and salsa baby). When I first discovered this, I was all excited, and my mom said it reminded her of the movie Soylent Green.

The strawberries might be cheap, but since strawberry season is over in the Valley, what you are buying are the rather bland variety grown in Watsonville. They are picked early for shipping, so they never fully ripen. I'd rather eat in season! It's better for our farmers, the environment, and our taste buds.
Plums, peaches, nectarines and apricots are all in season. The best places to buy them are always farmer's markets.
