Many haunted attractions claim they are not for younger children so please make sure you know what you are getting into when you are purchasing your tickets. Enjoy! A&W Surplus Online Auction based in Fresno

A&W Surplus is an online auction site based in Fresno near the airport.
You need an online account to participate and before you bid you can scroll through the "lots," the items to be auction, in the online catalog.You can visit the warehouse and look at the auction lots with an appointment on Tuesdays 9am - 4pm and Wednesdays 9am - 12pm so that you can see size, quality, and whether or not the item works.

The auction works in amounts of $2.50, so if you bid $1 on an 1 item lot, you pay $2.50. If you bid .01 on a 500 item lot, then you pay $5. So the amounts will go from $2.50, $5, $7.50, $10. $12.50, $15, $17.50, $20, $22.50 etc. Be very careful! Pay attention because when you bid it's a single amount for each item. You might see 3 cute Halloween costumes in a picture, but in red it will say 5 items, so if you bid $4 its $20 not $12 (which would become $12.50 because everything rounds up to the $2.50 increment).

Like any auction, proceed with caution and you can always call A&W Surplus if you have questions. No guarantees for things like electronics. If you are local you pick up your goods by appointment on Thursday and Friday. If you miss you appointment, then they charge you an extra $25 and ship the item out Monday and charge you the costs. So make sure you have time to pick it up.

It is online, so people outside the area can participate.

Read the fine print, honestly though, it's a yardsale lover's dream. It is taking all my willpower not to bid on the 6ft high boxes of Halloween crap lol.

Wells Fargo Wednesdays at the Zoo: Children get in Free!

UPDATE: Wells Fargo Wednesday is still in effect! I'm going this January 2016 with my friends and family and I can't wait to see the new African Exhibit. The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is truly one of Fresno's gems.

The Fresno Chaffee Zoo and Wells Fargo have teamed up to present Wells Fargo Wednesdays which means children ages 2-11 get in free with their families on the first Wednesday of each month. No coupon necessary. We went last month and it was the first time we saw the Sea Lion Cove! Loved it. My only disappointment was they blocked the path behind the reptile house, so you have to go around to get to the cove. So with 4 kids I got in for $7 (that's the adult ticket price).

Okay, I know I posted earlier that I bought this Auto Care Super Saver deal on Fresno Dealsaver so I wanted to let you know how it went for me. First after you purchase it you have to fill out a little form on the Auto Care Super Saver site and they mail your coupon card to you. I chose the Tire Pros in Clovis, made a same day appointment, and had a good experience. The owner wasn't cordial, but was nice enough and checked out my car for me in addition to the oil change and tire rotation. Also I the whole trip took about an hour. So since this deal was up again, I just wanted to let you know that it isn't too good to be true!

Better than Bisquick Biscuits

Homemade Bisquick Biscuits

Ingredients

2 1/2 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

3/4 cup shortening

1 cup milk

Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut shortening into the mix. When crumbly, add milk. Drop biscuit batter on ungreased cookie sheets. You can knead the dough for smoother biscuits 10 times on a floured surface if you like. Makes about 9 biscuits.

Bake at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes.

Better than the Box Brownies

Homemade Brownies

Ingredients

1 cup butter melted
1 3/4 cups white sugar
2 tsps vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 cup flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup chocolate chips or walnuts optional

Grease a 9x13 baking pan. Mix the butter, sugar, vanilla, and eggs till well blended. Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl, then combine. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or till the edges pull from the sides. Let cool. Yum yum!

J&K Farley Farms Kingsburg U-Pick

If you haven't taken your kids to a U-Pick it's fun to see how their eyes light up and how helpful they suddenly become. I was able to attend the Two Sister's Apricot U-Pick in Easton and I took my four year old and all my other kids were jealous. She was proud of the help she gave, and I was happy to see it. It's always nice to show people where are food comes from.

The Two Sister's U-Pick is closed until next summer, but J&K Farley Farms seems worth the trip to Kingsburg!

If you can (jar food), or know anyone who does, I don't think you can find a better deal in California. Opening jars of homemade peaches in winter is fairly amazing. I made some apricot jam that I'm still loving, loving, loving.

If you can't make it to Kingsburg, the Fresno State Organic Student Farm is open every second and fourth Saturday a month. As always bring cash to U-picks.

Need a New Twist on Dinner and a Show? Try Roger Rockas Dinner Theater

Most of us from the Fresno area are familiar to Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater located in downtown Fresno. The Company of Good Players actors perform at Roger Rocka's and at the Second Space Theater.  Roger Rocka's is one of Fresno's gems and if you are looking for something a bit more special for that special someone this Valentine's Day consider buying tickets to this show which is likely to be more entertaining than the latest chick flick. Until March 17, 2013 you can view Monty Python's Spamalot a theatrical adaptation of the famous movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. PG 13. Lonely Hearts an Anti-Valentine's Event at the Pacific Southwest Building

The Vault, is an actual bank vault that you can attend for events like Arthop at the Pacific Southwest Building in downtown Fresno. On February 15th the Pacific Southwest Building will be hosting a Lonely Hearts Anti-Valentine's Day dance for singles' awareness day, ages 21 and over, cash bar,  from 9pm to 1am.
